So, you’ve been learning one language on Babbel but now you’re itching to try another—maybe you’ve mastered the basics of Spanish and want to dive into Italian, or you’re feeling inspired to learn Turkish after a recent trip.
Whatever the reason, changing languages on Babbel is super easy—whether you use the mobile-friendly app or browser version.
And in this guide, I’m going to walk you through how to do it, along with answering some of the most common questions about switching languages on Babbel.
Let’s get started!
How Do I Switch to a Different Language on Babbel?
Changing your target language in Babbel is a breeze. Whether you’re on the app or using the desktop version, you can swap languages without losing any of your progress. Here’s how you do it:
Switching to a Different Language on the Babbel App
Follow these easy steps to change from one language to another on the Babbel app:
Step 1: Open the Babbel app on your phone or tablet.
Step 2: Go to the profile icon on the top right.
- Step 3: Tap on the Settings icon on the top left of your screen.
Step 4: Tap on “Meine Sprachen,” the second option under your name.
Step 5: You can see the language you’re currently learning (mine’s Italian), your language of instruction (mine’s German), and the list of language courses Babbel offers. Under “Weitere Lernsprachen,” choose a new language you want to learn.
Step 6: Simply tap on the language you want to learn from the list. And viola! You can see I changed from Italian to Spanish in a few quick steps! And now you too are ready to begin your new course.
Switching to a Different Babbel Language on Desktop
Here are the steps to change from one language to another on the desktop version of Babbel:
Step 1: Log into your Babbel account on the website. The login button is at the top right.
Step 2: Once logged in, you’ll see your learning screen is set to the target language you’re learning at the moment. Mine is Turkish because that’s the lingo I’m focusing on at the moment. You can see what the language is by looking at the country/language flag next to the profile icon at the top right.
- Step 3: Click on the language icon to change what language you want to learn next. You’ll see a list of language courses that Babbel offers.
- Step 4: Simply pick a new language from the list that you want to focus on. I clicked on Italian, and Babbel immediately took me to the Italian learning page.
It’s that easy!
And the best part?
You can switch between languages anytime you like without worrying about losing your place in any of your lessons. Babbel keeps all your progress saved separately for each language. (#That’sAWin!)

Does Changing the Language Affect My Learning Progress or Reset Any Lessons?
Nope!
One of the great things about Babbel is that it keeps your progress safe, no matter how many times you switch languages.
Whether you’re jumping back and forth between French and German, or testing out Spanish for a few days before returning to your main language, Babbel saves where you left off in each language. You can easily go right back to your French or German lessons without missing a beat.
Babbel’s system makes it super flexible to learn at your own pace, no matter how many languages you’re juggling.
Are There Any Extra Costs for Switching to Another Language Course on Babbel?
Technically, there aren’t any extra costs to switching from one language to the next on Babbel.
The app offers a limited free trial where you can try the first lessons of all the languages available on Babbel for free. So you can switch between all 15 languages to your heart’s content.
Of course, if you actually want to learn multiple languages on Babbel, you need a subscription.
Most of Babbel’s subscriptions only give you access to learn only one language. So while you can switch from Turkish to Italian, you won’t be able to do all the lessons for the new target language.
… Unless you have a Lifetime plan for Babbel self-study. This plan lets you study all 15 languages, and if you want to be a polyglot or dabble in languages, it’s the best option.
No one wants to have 2+ subscriptions for the same app just to learn more than one language, right?
Is the Interface or Lesson Structure Different on Babbel Depending on the Language I Choose?
No matter which language you choose to learn on Babbel, the interface remains the same.
You’ll always have the same user-friendly layout, progress tracking, and access to Babbel’s core features like the review tool and speech recognition.
That said, the content of the lessons will be tailored to each specific language, of course.
Some languages (like German or Russian) may have more detailed grammar explanations because of their complexity, while others (like Spanish or Italian) might focus more on conversation practice right from the start.
The goal is to make each language learning experience as relevant and engaging as possible, but you can rest easy knowing the general structure of the lessons stays consistent.
Can I Learn Multiple Languages at the Same Time on Babbel?
Absolutely! If you’re someone who loves juggling languages (I see you, polyglots!), Babbel is perfect for learning multiple languages at once. Here’s how to go about it:
- Switching Between Languages
Switching between languages is as simple as tapping a few buttons.
Babbel keeps your progress in each language separate, so you can jump from Italian to Turkish to Portuguese and back without losing your place.
- Tips for Managing Multiple Languages
If you’re learning more than one language, I recommend setting a schedule.
Maybe you focus on one language in the mornings and another in the afternoons, or dedicate certain days of the week to each language.
Babbel’s lessons are short enough to fit into any routine, so it’s easy to stay consistent without feeling overwhelmed.
- Combining Languages for More Fun
One trick I’ve found useful is combining similar languages, like learning Spanish and Italian at the same time. They share a lot of vocabulary and grammar, so it’s easier to see the connections and retain what you’ve learned.
Just be careful not to confuse them too much!
