What Language Did I Try to Learn on Promova
When I was a student, I chose to take Italian classes at my university. I had a solid understanding of the theory, and for practice, I spent two weeks in Rome. It was a fantastic experience that helped me not only to immerse myself in the Italian language, but also in the culture and local traditions.
I loved Italian, but for a few years I didn’t focus on it much because of some changes in my life. I was busy graduating from university, finding a job, and dealing with other things.
I decided to spend my vacation in Italy, so I really needed to brush up on my Italian. Since I didn’t have time for a standard Italian language course, I decided to try online platforms and apps.
I’d like to draw your attention today to the Promova app. It’s definitely worth a try because it’s all about helping you achieve your own language learning goals. The platform offers both 10- to 15-minute lessons and one-hour classes. You can pick and choose your own plans and work at your own pace.
Promova: Detailed Analysis
Promova was founded in 2019 by the Ukrainian IT company Genesis. At first, the concept of the app was to teach 10 foreign words every day. By the beginning of 2022, the app was much improved and was called Words Booster. It had more than 10,000 subscribers and offered a large number of courses and a tutoring program.
After the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the founders decided to rename the app to Promova to give it a Ukrainian touch. In Ukrainian it means “speech” and a wordplay “Pro Mova” in two words means “about a language”.
Promova’s focus is on a personalized approach to setting and achieving language goals. Users can choose individual or group lessons. They can choose the duration of each daily session and the number of classes per week.

A Look into Promova’s Language Courses and Exercises
At first you choose the target language and the original one. After that you choose your motivation, for example career, travel, culture and so on. Then you choose your level, and aspect you want to improve, how much time you can spend and how often.
I chose Italian as the target and English as the first one. For motivation I set brain development and beginner’s level. As an aspect for improvement I chose vocabulary and pronunciation and 10-15 minutes three times a week for lessons.
The First Lesson in the Italian Beginner Course
The first lesson on vocabulary was dedicated to the first conversation in Italian. There are four steps with the set of 5 words.
During the first step – vocabulary you listen to the pronunciation of the words.
The second step – practice, you are to choose the correct word for the picture. It is also completed with interesting facts.
On the third step you have to choose the correct word for the given situation.
And the fourth step is for practice of spelling. You have to put the right letters to the words you learn, pick the word from given letters, choose the translation for the word that was pronounced.
Since Italians are really passionate and use language of gestures a lot, there is a lesson which explains some of them by animated character and written description. I consider it very useful because it gives you an understanding of the behavior and mindset of Italians.

Is Promova Really Effective?
I think it is definitely effective for beginners. Its focus on vocabulary makes it a great app for learning foreign words. There are lots of exercises to improve your active vocabulary and new ones are added every week.
If you make a mistake, you have the chance to correct it. However, I don’t like the fact that there is no way to review the completed lesson. It is not convenient in case you want to revise the material.
I think Promova is very good for learning English. As for other languages, it is a good additional tool for learning words and phrases.
Does Promova Help You Become Fluent?
Yes, but only for English learners. There are several tools for learning English that are not yet available for other languages. Speaking clubs, tutors, podcasts, series, children’s books, etc. are only available in English.
For individual learners, Promova is a good tool for learning and practicing words and phrases. It gives a bit of grammar and some useful tips about the language and even the culture.

I tried Italian and I’m not so satisfied, although it only offers lessons on vocabulary. I tried to find flashcards in Italian and other tools, but failed.

Review Verdict: Is Promova Worth It?
WHY I RATE BABBEL WITH 7/10
The Promova app is relatively new to the market. It has great potential in the field of language learning. It is undoubtedly one of the leading apps for learning English, but it could be improved for other languages.
I recommend the app for learning or reviewing your foreign language vocabulary. You can practice with a large number of exercises with weekly updates that make the process fun and engaging.
I did not find a separate section dedicated to grammar, but I did find some tips and interesting facts about culture and learning during my lessons.
There is one very rich feature that I didn’t mention – a tool for dyslexic users. I think it is very important to give a helping hand to people with special needs!
