I particularly liked the free choice of teachers, who teach in many different languages, and I feel that they are all highly qualified and experienced. Another plus point, which I see as a bonus, is the extensive support material provided by Preply. In the following review I will present the online platform Preply in detail.

The following year, the Ukrainian educational startup expanded, not only in Ukraine, but also in Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan and Poland. In 2019, the e-learning platform expanded its language learning services to the UK, Germany, and Spain, after opening an office in Barcelona.
These days, Preply’s e-learning platform and language learning app offer access to 32,000 tutors teaching in around 50 languages from 203 countries. The company relocated its headquarters from Ukraine to the USA. It employs approximately 400 full-time staff in 30 different countries.

Tutors in countries such as Germany, Austria or Switzerland are generally more expensive than those in Brazil, Portugal or Poland.
For example, if you want to learn French with a tutor from France, you can pay around US$30 on average. With a tutor from Cameroon who also teaches French, you can get a session for as low as US$15. You can pay by credit card or PayPal.
Free Trial, Discounts, and Deals Overview
Preply does not offer a free trial or free lessons. Instead, the e-learning platform offers trial lessons with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
If the scheduled lesson is cancelled or the tutor does not meet your expectations, you have the option to receive a free replacement lesson. This free lesson is granted even if there is a price difference with the previously selected tutor.
If you are a student and would like to use Preply for tutoring, you will receive a 15% discount. The discount applies to the first month of the learning subscription. If you successfully recommend Preply to your friends, you will receive a 70% discount on your first lesson.
At the end of the lesson, an additional US$30 will be credited to your Preply account. You can use this money to book more lessons. It is not possible to withdraw the money.
First Steps at Preply: Download & Registration
If you want to use Preply on your phone, first download the app from Google Play or the App Store. Then, sign up using your email address or you can also sign up with a Google or Facebook account. Once your email address is confirmed, you can start using the app.
The account interface is simple to understand. Once you’ve signed up, the menu will take you through a series of steps. You can add details to your profile and set up different payment options. I used the Chrome browser to sign up and use the account.
Preply Lesson Structure
To learn a language, simply log into your account. You’ll be taken through a small menu to assess your existing language skills. Then choose whether you want to study with a tutor or in a group, and which country your tutor is from.
Next you’ll see a selection of tutors offering lessons. The tutors have detailed profiles with a picture, education level, ratings and price.
You can contact your tutor beforehand by sending them a message. Then just choose a date and time and you’re ready for your first lesson.
After the lesson you can rate the tutor. This rating is mandatory after every lesson and affects the tutor’s profile. If the lesson didn’t happen or you didn’t like it, you’ll get a replacement.

Preply Special Features
Particularly helpful on Preply are the Q&A Community and the Free Preply Blog. In the Q&A community, users’ questions are answered by tutors for free. This platform also gives tutors the opportunity to be booked by a student.
The group lessons are something new and very interesting. Learning in small groups adds even more motivation and variety to the learning process. In these groups, students have access to an experienced tutor. As group classes are more affordable, they are very popular and fill up quickly.

The e-learning platform and language learning app are basically suitable for anyone who wants to learn a language or refresh existing language skills. It is also ideal for university and college students as well as companies. Learning with an experienced teacher makes Preply highly recommended for children and teenagers too.
The tutors on the e-learning platform are well-prepared for their students and mostly tailor lesson materials to the appropriate level of proficiency. The teaching and learning plan is adjusted to the existing language level. Remarkable results can be achieved in individual learning units with good collaboration with a tutor.
How Can You Contact Preply's Customer Service?
If you have specific questions, you can contact the Preply team via the Support section of the app. You can also chat with them by selecting the question mark icon at the bottom right of the screen.
Once clicked, you can type your important questions into the window. However, it may take a few minutes for the support team to reply. Preply does not currently offer customer service by phone or video chat.
My Personal Experience with Preply
To test Preply, I decided to take Italian lessons. I was pleasantly surprised by the easy sign-up process. What I really liked was that I could choose my own tutor for the individual sessions I booked.
My tutor made a lot of effort to make the lessons interesting for me. She also answered all my tricky questions about grammar, syntax and phonetics.
Payment was made by credit card. Since I had added the card to my profile, subsequent charges for the lessons were automatically deducted.
What Do We Love About Preply?
We really like the wide range of tutors. The lessons are engaging and the content is well delivered.
The ability to choose your own schedule is also very good. The Q&A section for various questions is also ideal. The video and audio playback is very good and the tutors are easy to understand.
It is also very easy to register on the platform and the website is clearly laid out. The content is easy to find. We also liked the fact that you can pay by credit card or PayPal.
The referral bonus is also a really good solution, as the first few lessons are cheaper.
What We Don't Like About Preply?
Basically, we found very few things in our test that we didn’t particularly like. For example, Preply’s support.
It’s a shame that there is no support by phone or video chat. They only offer chat, where you often have to wait several minutes for an answer
I was also really surprised by the price difference between the different tutors. For example, an English teacher from Germany charges a solid 41 dollars for a 50-minute session. Meanwhile, a similarly qualified tutor from South America or Asia would charge between 12 and 15 dollars for the same session.
My conclusion: Is Preply worth it?

The e-learning platform and language learning app for individual or group lessons is, in my opinion, useful for anyone who wants to refresh or improve their language skills.
Preply is also suitable for students who want to improve their language skills. I like the fact that the lessons are billed individually.
This way you always know what you are paying for and you can choose the lessons that suit your needs and budget.
