#2. Babbel
Babbel, founded in Germany in 2007, guarantees that you will be able to converse in basic Russian within three weeks. It focuses more on speaking than grammar. The app provides a range of engaging resources to help you build confidence and expand your vocabulary.
You will start with the Russian alphabet, personal pronouns and basic phrases, and then progress through structured courses. Babbel also offers live group lessons with native tutors.
The initial lessons are free, but you can upgrade to a subscription plan for just $13.95 a month with Babbel Self-Study or $99 a month with Babbel Live. Alternatively, the Self-Study Lifetime plan at $599.99 grants you access to all 14 languages.
#3. Pimsleur
The Pimsleur app, established in 2018, builds upon Dr. Paul Pimsleur’s 60-year-old language learning method. Russian is one of the 50 languages on offer.
Pimsleur’s 30-minute audio lessons use the Graduated Interval Recall (GIR) method to help you retain information. Native audio recordings help you to pronounce words correctly, while explanations are provided in English.
Depending on the subscription, you can access additional practice with interactive exercises. Try the first lesson for free. Pimsleur All Access is available at $20.95 monthly or $164.95 annually. Pimsleur Premium is $575 for the complete course or $150 per level. Pimsleur Audio Only for Russian is $550 for the complete course or $119.95 for 16 hours.
